Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray continued his European trip today with a stop in the United Kingdom to strengthen the bilateral political and economic ties.
The Foreign Secretary met in London with Liam Fox, International Trade Secretary, to discuss the challenges of the global economic environment and the importance of maintaining a constructive, close and proactive dialogue regarding bilateral trade in the future.
Foreign Secretary Videgaray subsequently met with Philip Hammond, Chancellor of the Exchequer, to discuss the importance of maintaining a productive economic and financial relationship against the background of Britain’s departure from the European Union.
The Foreign Secretary was also received at Buckingham Palace by Prince Andrew, Duke of York, with whom he discussed the Mexican government’s interest in a close relationship that benefits the citizens of Mexico and the United Kingdom.
In economic, educational, cultural and multilateral issues, the United Kingdom is a strategic partner of Mexico. It is Mexico’s fifth largest trading partner in the European Union and ranks 15th worldwide, with trade of USD 5.36 billion in 2016. It is also Mexico’s fifth largest investor among the EU countries and eighth in the world, with cumulative investment between 1999 and 2017 of USD 10.927 billion.
Foreign Secretary Videgaray will end his European trip in London on Thursday with a talk in Chatham House and meetings with Secretary for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson and the Lord Mayor of London, Andrew Parmley.
